What is the goal of a Low Carb diet?

The goal of this diet is to lose fat, not weight.

How to activate the fat burning process?

The human body has three main sources of energy:

  • glucose (carbohydrate)
  • fat
  • protein

When we burn fat we produce substances called ketones.

High levels of carbohydrates in the diet, also known as high glycemic load foods (bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes), act with the hormone insulin to disable fat burning. It becomes virtually impossible to burn fat if you have raised your insulin levels.

How is this diet different from others?

Most calorie-restricted diets produce disappointing results mainly due to the loss of muscle mass. This loss of muscle reduces your metabolic rate (ability to burn calories) and increases your likelihood of putting on weight again (yo-yo effect).

Losing muscle mass and reducing your metabolic rate tends to create a vicious cycle (gaining and losing fat) that causes hormonal and metabolic abnormalities that eventually promote even more fat.
