Intralipotherapy in Lisbon

What is Intralipotherapy?

There is localized fat that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise—not because of a lack of effort, but because our bodies have stubborn areas that follow their own logic. Intralipotherapy targets exactly those areas: with direct injections into the fat layer, without surgery, and with long-lasting results.

Unlike other body treatments that target circulation or the skin’s surface, intralipotherapy is an aesthetic medicine procedure specifically designed to eliminate stubborn localized fat. The adipocytolytic solution—a biocompatible substance recognized by the body—is injected directly into the fat layer. There, it breaks down the membranes of fat cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the lymphatic system.

The result is a gradual and lasting reduction in fat in the treated area—without general anesthesia, without surgery, and without a significant recovery period.

At the Michelle Bond Clinic, intralipotherapy is performed by doctors, following a preliminary individual assessment to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your case and ensure safe and effective results.

How Does the Treatment Work?

The process begins with a consultation, during which the doctor examines the area to be treated, assesses the amount of localized fat, and determines the recommended number of sessions for your specific case.

During the session, the area is prepared, and the fat-dissolving solution is injected directly into the fat layer using a fine needle or cannula. The session takes approximately 30 minutes. No anesthesia is required—it is normal to feel some warmth, pressure, or local tenderness during the application, as well as redness and slight swelling in the days that follow. These effects are temporary and are part of the body’s natural response to the treatment.

The first results are visible after 4 to 6 days. The final result is assessed after 3 to 4 weeks, at which point the doctor reviews the progress and determines whether additional sessions are necessary.

Post-Treatment Care

For the next 2 days, wear loose, comfortable clothing, and avoid sun exposure, alcoholic beverages, and foods high in fat, sugar, and simple carbohydrates. Stay well-hydrated—1.5 to 2 liters of water per day—to help the lymphatic system eliminate fat cells.

Who is it For?

Intralipotherapy is recommended for people with localized fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. The most commonly treated areas are the abdomen, flanks, double chin, arms, thighs, inner knees, and buttocks.

It is not recommended for people who are overweight or obese; in such cases, we take an integrated approach that may include a medical consultation for weight loss and other complementary treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between intralipotherapy and mesotherapy?

These are distinct treatments with different objectives. Mesotherapy uses a combination of vitamins, minerals, and other active ingredients that improve circulation and skin texture and combat cellulite; it acts more superficially and diffusely. Intralipotherapy is more targeted: the adipolytic solution is injected into the fat layer with the specific goal of destroying fat cells. It is recommended for stubborn localized fat, not for cellulite or sagging skin.

When will I start to see results?

The first results are noticeable 4 to 6 days after the first session. The full results are assessed after 3 to 4 weeks, once the body has completed the process of eliminating the treated fat cells. Subsequent sessions, if necessary, are spaced one month apart.

Is the treatment painful?

Intralipotherapy is minimally invasive and does not require anesthesia. During the procedure, it is common to feel heat, pressure, and tenderness in the treated area—a sensation ranging from mild to moderate in intensity—which most people tolerate comfortably. After the session, redness, swelling, and small bruises may appear, but these will fade naturally over the next few days.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions is determined by the doctor during the initial consultation, taking into account the area to be treated and the amount of localized fat. In general, most patients benefit from 2 to 4 sessions, with a minimum interval of one month between each session. Progress is evaluated after each session.

Is intralipotherapy effective?

Yes. Intralipotherapy with an adipolytic solution is considered one of the most effective non-surgical options for reducing localized fat. The treated fat cells are permanently destroyed. However, a high-calorie diet can lead to new fat accumulation in other cells, so combining the treatment with healthy habits enhances and prolongs the results.

What are the contraindications?

This treatment is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or for people with autoimmune diseases, liver, kidney, or heart problems, or diabetes. A prior medical evaluation is always conducted to confirm that the treatment is appropriate for your health condition.
