What Are Collagen Biostimulators?

Collagen biostimulators are products based on Calcium Hydroxyapatite or Polylactic Acid, which is a compound absorbed by the body with the same characteristics as human teeth and bones.

How does it work?

In general, biostimulators cause a slight inflammatory reaction in the dermis, causing the cells responsible for collagen production to activate and produce new fibers over a long period of time. It is a unique collagen replacement treatment that helps to gradually and subtly reduce lines, wrinkles and folds.

What about results and durability?

It differs from other traditional fillers in that the results are natural-looking and last an average of 2 years. It helps to replenish facial collagen and restores lost volume, giving a more natural appearance and providing firmer, smoother and rejuvenated skin.

Step-by-Step Treatment

Evaluation. Make an appointment for an assessment.
First appointment – clinical. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss the treatment and the results you want to achieve with our specialist doctor.
Treatment. It starts with cleansing and disinfecting the skin. Next, an anesthetic cream will be applied to the treatment area for greater comfort. Once the treatment areas have been identified, a series of painless, needle-free injections will be carried out, all using a cannula.
Post-treatment / results. You will see the results of the treatment immediately, but they will be more visible after 4 to 6 weeks. After 12 weeks, the treatment reaches its peak, where the skin becomes firmer, more elastic and hydrated.

Important note: With regard to the number of sessions required, the treatment protocols suggest one to three sessions, with annual maintenance. The number of sessions will depend on the degree of sagging. For younger skin types, one session usually brings improvements and serves as a preventative measure. More mature skin generally requires more sessions and combined treatments.

How Long Do the Results Last?

On average, the results last around 2 years. However, a person’s lifestyle also has an impact on the durability of this procedure, as does their day-to-day skin care.

Is Any Aftercare Required?

Care should be taken after treatment with collagen biostimulators:

Do not touch the treated area for 4 hours;
Avoid sleeping under the treated area for 3 nights;
If a bruise appears, apply arnica gel several times a day (you can get it at any pharmacy);
Don’t have any facial treatments for 4 weeks. After this period, you can have other facial treatments, except laser treatments;
Avoid strenuous exercise that causes the face to heat up for 2 weeks.

Post-Treatment Care Guidelines

After treatment, the skin may become inflamed and sensitive around the injection site, which improves within 24-48 hours. Allergic reactions to the product, such as redness and itching, rarely occur and can be treated with the use of topical anti-inflammatories or oral tablets, according to medical advice.

It’s a procedure that doesn’t require much time for recovery. However, it is recommended that you use sunscreen and avoid excessive exposure to the sun, as well as avoiding intense physical activity during the recovery period (the day of the procedure). The day after the procedure, you can resume normal activities and no further rest is required. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise that causes your face to heat up.

What Are the Contraindications?

The procedure is contraindicated for patients who are allergic or hypersensitive to the active ingredients of biostimulants, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with acute infectious diseases, inflammation of the skin, cancers, a tendency to keloids, a tendency to bleed and some blood diseases (blood clotting) and diseases of the immune system.

Which Complementary Treatments Are Available?

Anti-wrinkle creams
