Tipo de acne

Learn about the different types of acne:

  • Blackheads: are black or yellow, but small acne spots are found on the skin. The black color is the result of pigmentation in the inner life of the hair follicle.
  • White dots or milium: these are bubbles that don’t drain completely when picked or squeezed. They are very firm, although they look like black dots.
  • Pustules: have a white tip, but are similar to papules. They contain pus.
  • Nodules: these are hard and located below the surface of the skin. They can be very painful.
  • Cysts: these are large and filled with pus. They appear like boils and can form scars when squeezed. Cysts are the most serious form of acne.

The main complication of popping pimples is that they damage the surrounding skin tissues, forming scars. So, if not treated properly, acne can cause scars, which can remain visible forever. See more in the Frequently Asked Questions.

Como ultrapassar a acne

Acne is caused by the blockage of skin follicles. There are small holes in the skin where hair grows – hair follicles. Immediately beneath the skin are the sebaceous glands which are connected to the hair follicles. It is these glands that secrete oily fluid (sebum) which helps to lubricate the skin and hair.

During periods of increased hormone secretion, the glands produce more sebum. Dead skin cells mix with the sebum and form a plug that clogs sweat pores or hair follicles. The clogged sweat pore can protrude outwards when it is located close to the skin to form a pimple, while a blackhead can be caused by the clogged follicle opening.

Acne is a very common skin disease, but those who suffer from it are no less affected by it. There is no cure for this disease, but there are various control and treatment measures. At our clinic we have various aesthetic treatments to treat active acne. We also have an approach to treating it from the inside out.

Treating acne internally is about understanding the cause behind the problem. So we use nutrition and dietary intervention to support kidney and liver function, helping your body to detoxify efficiently. We can also recommend functional tests to help identify any food intolerances that may be affecting your gut lining (causing intestinal permeability) or nutritional deficiencies.

Causas

The causes of acne vary depending on

  • Testosterone: in both male and female adolescents, testosterone is considered the main cause of acne. During puberty, there is an increase in testosterone production which leads to the development of the male and female sexes. The skin glands are sensitized by this hormone and begin to secrete more sebum.
  • Heredity: there is a possibility that acne runs in some families. This means that acne can be inherited by children through their parents.
  • Being a woman: Being a woman can predispose you to acne. At some point in a woman’s life, they develop acne. These periods include: during menstruation, pregnancy and polycystic ovary syndrome. These conditions cause an increase in the secretion of hormones, which affect the glands to secrete more sebum.
  • Stress in adults: Adults over 25 are developing acne, most of which is caused by stress. In response to stress, our bodies produce more androgens, which stimulate the sebaceous glands and hair follicles in the skin, causing breakouts. Acne can therefore be a permanent problem when adults are under constant stress.
