Eczema

Although there are several types of eczema, the most common is atopic eczema, also called atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common skin diseases, especially in urban areas or in developed countries.

Generally speaking, atopic dermatitis is a disease that affects the skin, causing it to become inflamed and irritated. It is characterized by inflammation, itching, extreme dryness or redness of the skin.

Atopic eczema is usually genetically inherited and affects the parts of the body that have folds, namely the backs of the knees, the elbows, the face, and the neck. The severity of eczema varies from person to person, and flares can occur for no obvious reason.

In most cases, creams and lotions are used when you have a skin problem. However, creams and lotions only help on a very superficial level. Here, in our clinic, we will go deeper into the matter, in order to solve it permanently.

Symptoms

Knowing that eczema is a skin disease that causes the skin to become inflamed and irritated, we then have red, dry, cracked, and scaly skin as symptoms.

The symptoms of atopic eczema also include rough, itchy skin, red plaques, and crusts, located mainly on the face, neck, and in the creases (namely the folds of the knees and elbows), but also on the hands and eyelids.

They can also bleed and form a crust, and in more severe cases, can affect the entire body

Heat, sweating, and stress can aggravate the symptoms.

Causes

Eczema can have many causes and aggravating factors, such as:

  • Prolonged stress;
  • Food intolerances;
  • Constipation;
  • Vitamin B complex deficiencies;
  • Traumatic events;
  • Essential fatty acid deficiencies;
  • Hepatic congestion.

The skin is the largest organ in the body, and is also an important component in detoxification. In a situation of toxin overload, if the liver, kidneys or intestines are not functioning optimally, the body will get rid of these toxins through the skin.

It should also be noted that there is a very strong connection between skin health and intestinal complaints.

Treatment

Our approach to treating eczema involves understanding the root cause behind the problem. This is how:

  • we use nutrition and dietary intervention to support kidney and liver function, helping the body to detoxify efficiently.
  • We can also perform functional tests to help identify food intolerances that may be affecting the intestinal lining (causing intestinal permeability) or possible nutritional deficiencies.

Excess fungus (such as Candida) can also be the cause of some skin problems, and therefore treatment of the digestive system is essential to improve skin health.

At our clinic, the goal is to nourish the body from the inside out, offering a long-term solution for the health of your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a first consultation consist of?

The goal of the first consultation is to understand the patient's current health condition, in as much detail as possible:

  • analysis of the entire family history, diet, physical activity, mental health, and weight;
  • analysis of signs and symptoms and history of laboratory tests;
  • anthropometry: weight, measurements and fat percentage;
  • goal setting (action plan);
  • In some cases, it may be necessary to order additional tests (to be brought to the second consultation);
  • prescription for supplementation, when necessary.

The first consultation lasts approximately one hour.

Is the consultation for the treatment of eczema tailored to my needs?

All our treatments are deeply focused on individualized care, this one is no exception. The treatment for atopic eczema, as stated in the previous question, is prescribed depending on the patient's current health condition.

No two prescriptions are alike, each person is unique and their current state of health is the sum total of their experiences.

The results of treatment vary depending on the individual, as well as the problem being treated. In some cases you can get quick results, while in others it may take several months or longer. As a general rule, the longer you have had the health problem, the longer you will need the treatment.

How does the follow-up work?

At the beginning of the treatment, face-to-face consultations are usually every 4 weeks. It is not advisable to space it out much more than that.

Support is offered for questions that may arise after the consultations via Whatsapp or email. We like to follow our patients closely, especially at the beginning of the treatment. This way, the results are better.
