The anti-wrinkle injection originates from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, as this bacterium produces a toxin during the sporulation process that blocks communication between the nerves, leaving the skin tougher and more resistant. It is therefore often used in cosmetic treatments. However, the receptors that are blocked by the toxin are continually replaced, so its effect is not permanent (lasting up to 4-5 months).
In our clinic we use the anti-wrinkle injection to reduce wrinkles and expression lines in the eye area (such as crow's feet), in the forehead area, or in the space between the eyebrows (glabella).
The effect of the application of the toxin promotes the smoothing of wrinkles and expression lines on the face. These expression lines can be caused by several factors, including the contraction of facial muscles during the years, a bad diet, facial aging, tobacco, excessive sun exposure, among others.
Performance of anti-wrinkle injection treatment
As the toxin acts on the expression wrinkles (by relaxing the muscles of the face), this procedure allows the results obtained to be more visible and faster than when using anti-aging creams, even though these exist.
There is not exactly a base age for using this treatment. However, it is generally indicated for adults who have expression lines (more or less advanced), or wish to prevent the signs of aging on the skin. In other words, the use of the toxin can vary depending on the age at which:
- at younger ages it serves to prevent the formation or deepening of expression lines;
- At other ages it serves as an expression wrinkle attenuator.
