What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse is a dermal filler with a unique mode of action. It is a product based on calcium hydroxyapatite, a substance naturally present in our body (it has the same characteristics as our teeth and bones, being composed of phosphate and calcium). It is a product with a high degree of biocompatibility with the human organism, and so the radiesse is considered a safe procedure.

Radiesse stimulates the skin's collagen production, allowing it to regain volume, and has three effects that help the skin regain its firmness and elasticity:

fills in wrinkles,
adds volume and
improves the quality of the skin.

Think of this product with a two-in-one action: in addition to filling wrinkles it is a collagen stimulator with long-lasting results. As Radiesse is metabolized by the body, it leaves the remaining collagen stimulator.

The treatment step by step

Evaluation. Schedule your evaluation appointment.
First consultation - clinical. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss the treatment and the results you want to achieve with our medical specialist.
Treatment. It begins with cleansing and disinfection of the skin. Next, an anesthetic cream will be applied to the treatment area for comfort. After identifying the treatment areas, a series of injections will be performed, painlessly and without a needle, all done with a cannula.
Post-treatment / results. You will see the result of the treatment immediately, however, it can be seen more visibly after 4 to 6 weeks. In 12 weeks the treatment reaches its peak, in which the skin becomes firmer, more elastic and hydrated.

Important note: Regarding the number of sessions required, the treatment protocols suggest one to three sessions, with annual maintenance. The number of sessions will be defined depending on the degree of flaccidity. In younger skins, generally one session already brings improvements and serves as prevention. More mature skins generally need more sessions and combined treatments.

How long do the results last?

The duration of Radiesse results is, on average, about 2 years. However, the lifestyle of the person also has an impact on the durability of this procedure, as well as the day to day skin care.

Is any care needed after the procedure?

The precautions to take after treatment with Radiesse are:

Do not touch the treated area for 4 hours;
Avoid sleeping under the treated area for 3 nights;
If a bruise appears, apply arnica gel several times a day (can be purchased at any pharmacy);
Do not do any facial treatments for 4 weeks. After that period, you may have other facial treatments, except laser treatments;
Avoid strenuous exercises and those that cause the face to heat up for 2 weeks.

What is the post-procedure care?

After treatment, the skin may become inflamed and sensitive around the injection site, which improves within 24-48 hours. Allergic reactions to the product, such as redness and itching, rarely occur and can be treated with topical anti-inflammatory drugs or oral tablets, as directed by your doctor.

It is a procedure that does not require much time for recovery. However, it is recommended to use sunscreen and avoid excessive exposure to the sun, as well as to avoid intense physical activities during the recovery period (day of the procedure). The day after the procedure, normal activities can be resumed, and no further rest is required. However, avoid strenuous exercises and those that cause the face to heat up.

What are the contraindications?

The procedure is contraindicated for patients with allergy and hypersensitivity to the stimulators' active ingredient, as well as for pregnant and lactating women, people with acute infectious diseases, skin inflammation, cancers, tendency to keloids, tendency to bleed, and some blood diseases (blood clotting), and immune system diseases.

What are the complementary treatments?

There are other treatments that can be complementary to this one, among them we distinguish the following:

Anti-wrinkle creams

Anti-wrinkle creams fight aging and moisturize the skin. They are divided into cosmetics, dermocosmetics, and nutricosmetics.

Cosmetics: superficial action, they act to moisturize and protect the skin against wind, heat, and pollution;
Dermocosmetics: these act in a deeper way, and have more powerful actives and substances to combat spots, scars, and flabbiness;
Nutricosmetics: such as collagen and antioxidants, help improve the skin from the inside out.
