What is a TCA peel?

TCA peeling (trichloroacetic acid peeling) is a medical peeling indicated to soften blemishes and marks present on the skin.

This peeling penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin and gently dissolves the top layer (stratum corneum), revealing new cells and leaving the skin smoother and less blemished.

The benefits don't stop there, for as it increases the production of new collagen, it also brings improvements in expression lines, wrinkles, and scars.

The step by step treatment

Treatment. Your doctor will start by cleaning your skin to remove any dirt or makeup. Next, a solution is applied to prepare the skin and a balm to protect the skin after the treatment. The TCA peel is then applied and will remain on the skin for approximately 5 minutes. The peel may be applied up to three times depending on comfort level and need. At the end of the treatment, all applied products will be removed and a moisturizer and sunscreen will be applied. The treatment time is 45 to 60 minutes.
Recovery. Immediately after the peel, you will have some redness, which will disappear within 24 hours. No water can be applied to the skin for up to 6 hours after the peel, as this will stop the process. We recommend that no makeup be applied for 24 hours, unless it is mineral based.
Results. Some patients report a little peeling of the skin in the two to five days after treatment, which is perfectly normal, after which the results will be visible.
Care. Following the aftercare recommendations and having a good home care kit is essential, as they are the key to maintaining your results. Your doctor will be able to help you choose the products.

What is the post-procedure care?

The following precautions are recommended to enhance the results and minimize side effects of the treatment:

You can gently apply mineral makeup after the treatment or apply your normal makeup once the redness subsides.
A cold compress helps to soothe the skin.
Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 7 days and use SPF 50+ sunscreen at all times during treatment.
Avoid hot water and saunas for 7 days after treatment.
Avoid using exfoliants and cosmetics that contain acids or retinoids, for 7 days pre-treatment and post-treatment
Avoid touching the peeling skin. The dead skin will naturally peel off
Avoid products containing alpha and beta-hydroxy acids, retinoids, retinols, as well as cosmetics containing fragrance for seven days before and after treatment.
